Showcase Sunday (#6)

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicki at Books, Biscuits and Tea. Its aim is to showcase our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders this week.
For Review:

I actually finished this one already, despite having only picked it up two nights ago, and I loved it! It was fantastic, so look out for my review of it soon! :)
I can't wait to see what happens in this installment! I've heard fabulous things about it and hope it lives up!
I'll admit it - I broke down and bought this book because all the raving reviews kept haunting me at night. It's true! I'm so curious about this novel, so I figured it's about time my curiosity was sated, don't you agree? ;)

Borrowed:

One of my very close blogging friends actually mentioned this in a comment to one of my reviews and said it was similar to another book I liked and after checking out all the fantastic reviews, I knew I had to get my hands on this one. Plus, the cover is gorgeous!
I have to be honest, I kind of picked this one up because of the cover. *sheepishly hides* But, the synopsis and reviews look very promising, so I hope I'll enjoy this one.
I think this will probably come as a surprise to most of you, but I've never read a Maggie Stiefvater book before. I know, blasphemy! You see, I was completely averse to her Wolves of Mercy Falls Series as I was told it was exactly like Twilight, except more Team Jacob, so of course the warning bells went off and I've avoided Maggie's books like the plague ever since. Until, of course, all the raving reviews of The Raven Boys began trickling in and then I saw another Stiefvater book in the library, so I figured I could still read her without succumbing to the hype of the Wolves of Mercy Fall Series. I have to admit, this one sounds fantastic, so I'm really hoping I like it! *fingers crossed*

  1. I actually didn't get any books this week - I know, I know ...

I really liked The Scorpio Races despite not being a fan of the Shiver series, I think they couldn't be more different. Scorpio Races is very subtle, especially the romance.
I actually wasn't a fan of Burn Bright and still haven't managed to finish Wander Dust, but look forward to hearing what you think.

    1. Janina, I dream about weeks where I don't get books! If I didn't get books then I could settle down and shorten my TBR-Pile! ;)

I'm glad to hear that you liked The Scorpio Races! I'm looking forward to it and I really hope I enjoy Burn Bright and Wander Dust more than you did. *fingers crossed*

  4. *splutters at the incredible books you have this week* ORIGIN!!! I am so, so, so excited to get my hands on that! And ESPECIALLY eager to read your stunning review :D

Ooh and I just read two reviews for Something Strange and Deadly and I'm frothing at the mouth to read it now. So no doubt you'll send me into cardiac arrest if you love it.

ENDLESSLY! I keep forgetting that is out. Loved the first two, so I can't wait to see how it ends. Oh goodness, I LOVE Catastrophic History and The Scorpio Races!! <3 Both are fave reads. I'm a big fan of Maggie's work and TSR is probably my favourite so far. Fingers crossed she's to your taste!

And weee! Burn Bright! Aussie love <3 That was SUCH a fascinating and unique read.

You have a lot of delicious reading ahead of you, m'dear, so... *pushes you toward a comfy corner with your pile of books* GET READING. I WANT REVIEWS. ASAP. Or, you know, whenever you can bust them out. Enjoy!

    1. Thanks Brodie!(: I'm a little scared to read Origin since some of the reviews were very disappointing, but I hope I like it! *fingers crossed*

Yes, I shall definitely send you into cardiac arrest! ;) I loved it SO MUCH! I think my review was a little biased though, so other reviewers have definitely found faults with it, but I enjoyed it immensely despite that, so I hope you read it soon! :D

I loved the first two as well, so I'm really excited to see how the trilogy ends. I'm so glad to hear that you love Catastrophic History and Scorpio Races! I've been so wary of her novels, so I'm hoping I like Scorpio Races too!

Yup, I've been reading quite a few Australian books recently, which is GREAT! :D I love them!(:

LOL! I'll try my best Brodie! I finally caught up on my reviews today since I was behind on SIX, so now that I'm all caught-up, I can read tons of more books to send you into cardiac arrest for! ;)

I've seen some great reviews for Something Strange and Deadly, so I will definitely be keeping an eye out for your review! =) I'm also super excited to read Endlessly- I definitely need to get my hands on a copy of that one! And I really loved The Catastrophic History of You and Me [I think I was the one that recommended that one to you when I commented, but I'm not sure... ;)]. Nonetheless, it's such a fabulous contemporary read, and definitely on my favorites shelf!

  19. I'm reading Something Strange and Deadly now...I may be the only person who isn't wild about it. Not that I think it's horrible- it's actually good. But I was expecting more, I guess. I'm over 50% through, so maybe the last part of the book will pick up and I'll love it. I'm reading Endlessly right now too. That I do really like. I can't believe I've never heard of Wander Dust even though it sounds really interesting- plus, I agree, I love the cover. Can't believe I didn't add it to the TBR just based on the cover.

    1. One of my very close friends is struggling with Something Strange and Deadly as well. I think a lot of the reason I loved it so much may have had to do with the fact that I didn't have too many high expectations for it, so I was pleasantly surprised. I hope you like it more during the last half of the novel though! I'll be looking out for your review!(:

Endlessly looks great, so I can't wait to start it, and Wander Dust really has such an eye-catching cover! I'm going to have to start that one soon as well! ;)

I wasn't initally planning to read Something Strange and Deadly, but your five star rating definitely convinced me! Plus, zombies? Steampunk? A kick-arse protagonist? Yessss.

Thank you for sharing and enjoy your goodies!

I can't wait to hear your thoughts. :) I'm not a big fan of Maggie Stiefvater's book myself, but as you know, I really loved her latest, The Raven Boys. I'm eager to give The Scorpio Races a try one day. Hope you enjoy it! :)
