Showcase Sunday (#13)

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicki at Books, Biscuits and Tea. Its aim is to showcase our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders this week.

For Review:
What Happens Next by Colleen Clayton
I was so excited to receive this one in the mail this week, especially as it's for my very first blog tour! I love the sound of this dark and compelling contemporary debut, so I hope it lives up to all my expectations for it!
Swell by Julie Rieman Duck
I actually received Swell a few weeks ago and completely forgot to add it to my Showcase Sunday post as my review for this is only going up in November. I plan on reading it soon though, so I'm curious to see how the issue of alcoholism is tackled in this fascinating new romance!

Bought:
Unspoken (The Lynburn Legacy, #1) by Sarah Rees Brennan
I love Sarah Rees Brennan. Not only is she an author who writes well and has some of the most original ideas I've seen, but her execution of them is surprisingly hilarious and her books, more than being wonderful and fantastic, are just so much fun to read! Needless to say, I was squealing like the fangirl that I am when I received this in the mail and I wound up staying up till 2 AM to finish this one, despite my drooping eyelids and it was so worth it! I'm posting my review of this one tomorrow, but if you can't wait to read it, you can check it out on GoodReads along with my pre-review of the sequel! :)

Carnival of Souls by Melissa Marr
I haven't made my excitement for this book too much of a secret, so I was thrilled to be the first one in my town to find it and snatch it from its snug library shelves. Unfortunately, I don't see myself having the time to start this anytime soon, but I can't wait to begin it eventually! It seems to be a fantastic read and Marr rarely disappoints!
On Dublin Street by Samantha Young
I don't read a lot of adult novels, let alone adult romance, but this one was so compelling that I just had to pick it up. I read it in between my classes and stayed up late during school nights to finish this one because it was simply un-put-down-able and I loved it! It was a lot deeper and more character driven than I expected a romance to be and I was so pleasantly surprised by this as the synopsis for this story really is quite misleading. Still, if you're looking for a steamy romance with lots of character development, this one is for you! ;)
The City's Son (The Skyscraper Throne, #1) by Tom Pollock
I've heard a LOT about this book lately and I just want to dive into it and read. It sounds exactly like the type of novel I would love, especially as it's urban fantasy, so I hope I get the time to start this one sometime this week!

I didn't pick up too many books this week, although I wanted to snag more books from my library, but I just don't have the time to read them all. In all honesty, my priority is actually reading The Raven Boys the moment it releases as I am DYING to get my hands on it. I'm also excited for a lot of other releases this week, but as long as I can get The Raven Boys, it's all good! ;) It's unfortunate that my reading time has been so drastically cut down with school, but I am enjoying my classes, however difficult they may be, and finding time to read too!(: Anyway, what new novels did you pick up this week? Link me up! :D

  1. Awesome books, Keertana! I didn't even get books this week, not because of school though. The libraries here in the Philippines are tremendously lacking in YA too so, nay!

I've heard soooo many good things about Unspoken and I've been thinking about buying it too, so I'm def waiting for that review of yours. Happy reading!

  2. I've read mixed reviews for Unspoken, so I'm glad to hear you loved it!! Hahaha wow... I didn't read your actual review yet, I'll wait for tomorrow (mainly because I need to go to bed soon :P), but I read your pre-review of the sequel and... damn, if that's not enough excitement to make me want to read this, I'm not sure what is!

CARNIVAL OF SOULS!!!! AH. I WANT. AND. CITY'S SON. That is one I am really, really interested in reading your review on because I want it to be AMAZING. And really? On Dublin Street? Damn you, I wouldn't ordinarily have picked this up.... now, however... *INTRIGUED*

AND THE RAVEN BOYS *fangirl* NEW MAGGIE STIEFVATER!! AND THEN OMFG TOMORROW IS MONDAY AND A NEW WEEK AND THEN TECHNICALLY I CAN SAY 'NEXT WEEK I'M BUYING THE NEW ROWLING BOOK" *screams* *dies*

I hope they live up to the hype! :D On Dublin Street was REALLY steamy and so, sooo good. Very highly recommended as well! ;)

YES THE RAVEN BOYS! TOMORROW! AAHH! AND THE CASUAL VACANCY! I am going to die of the awesomeness releasing this month! :D

  3. Oh so many good ones here! I've been wanting to read Unspoken, but have heard it has a cliffhanger - or at least doesn't resolve nicely, so I may wait until book 2 to read. I just purchased On Dublin Street because I've heard excellent reviews of it, and I hope to get my hands on Carnival of Souls this fall too. I'm also going to read The Raven Boys as soon as it comes out this week, especially as I'm planning to see Maggie Stiefvater when she's in Cambridge this Thursday. I CAN'T WAIT to meet her!

    1. AAAHHH! YOU'RE MEETING MAGGIE! I AM SO JEALOUS! I wish I could meet her! :( I can't wait to see your post about that though, Lauren, and I'm SO excited for The Raven Boys! :) Unspoken does have a KILLER cliffhanger, so you should probably hold out on that one until the sequel is closer to releasing, and On Dublin Street is amazing. I loved it and I hope you enjoy Carnival of Souls when you pick that one up too! :D

  12. Haha, excited to read your review for Unspoken. I still haven't written mine yet, I was trying to let myself get over my anger first so that it was more of the shiny happy things I loved about the book than the thing I HATED SO FREAKING MUCH.

Also super excited about The City's Son, and I'm about halfway through listening to Carnival of Souls right now and you're right--Marr never disappoints! =D

Gosh, that cliffhanger is going to keep me up for nights, so I totally understand your difficulty in writing your review. I hate cliffies with a passion! >.<

  17. Oh my goodness, I'm so jealous you got What Happens Next! I'm dying for that one. I'm so thrilled to hear you loved On Dublin Street too! I loved that one! It was HOT and had a wonderful story too! Hope you enjoy Carnival of Souls as much as I did and you know I enjoyed Unspoken as much as you, except for the HORRIBLE cliffhanger, WTH!!! All I know is Jared and Kami better be making out the whole second novel or things could get ugly! Nice haul Keertana. :)

    1. I'm loving What Happens Next, Rachel, so I hope you can pick up a copy of it soon! On Dublin Street was SO much better than I thought it would be, so I adored it and I can't WAIT to start Carnival of Souls! :)

YES! Jared and Kami better be making out the whole time in Book 2 or else I'm going to be a very unhappy reader. That. Cliffhanger. It will be the death of me, I swear. I mean, how can SRB make us SO invested in two characters and then just DESTROY US? It's evill! I can't wait till Book 2 though, so hopefully we'll both snag ARCs! *fingers crossed*
