Showcase Sunday (#21)

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicki at Books, Biscuits and Tea. Its aim is to showcase our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders this week.

For Review:

I actually tore into this one the moment I got it since I couldn't wait to start and I loved it! Very highly recommended, although with a few flaws...my review is coming closer to the release date, in May, but until then, definitely put this on your TBR-Shelves! :)
Marco Impossible by Hannah Moskowitz
No, this is no dream. Yes, I really did get approved for this on NetGalley. I KNOW! I was screaming when I saw my approval e-mail because GUYS I LOVE HANNAH MOSKOWITZ WITH A BURNING PASSION! :D
The Nightmare Affair by Mindee Arnett
I love the cover for this one and the premises is so original, so I'm really excited to read this. I'm hoping Arnett can pull off such an intriguing debut, so I hope this lives up to all my expectations!

The S-Word by Chelsea Pitcher
I was originally really excited to be offered a physical ARC of this, but as it took its time coming to me, so did the negative reviews of this one. I still hope I enjoy it, perhaps with some altered expectations, so we'll see how this one goes.
Wish I Could Have Said Goodbye by Shari A. Brady
Another one I already read since I'm on a blog tour for this next month and I rather enjoyed it. Especially the romance - it was the cutest thing EVER.
I know a lot of readers who are familiar with this author's novels, although I am not, but the synopsis and genre of this are right up my alley, so I'm looking forward to checking it out soon.

Bought:

Just One Day by Gayle Forman
I read this the day it released in about...six hours, with homework and essays written in the middle. I literally could not put it down and now I just NEED the next book! It was incredible though, so Gayle Forman, hats off you to!
Friday Brown by Vikki Wakefield
I'd heard SO much about this one, so when it finally arrived, I got down to reading it. It wasn't what I was expecting, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I really am looking forward to Wakefield's debut now, when I get around to it.
Teeth by Hannah Moskowitz
MOSKOWITZ! :D Gosh, guys, what do I say about Teeth? It was...incredible. Poignant. Moving. Unbelievable. Gripping. Heart-Wrenching. Beautiful. Read it. NOW.

Timekeeper by Alexandra Monir
I still don't know WHY I decided to read this when I didn't even enjoy the first book, Timeless, all that much, but I was curious. It isn't a bad series, just not one for me I think.
A Face Like Glass by Frances Hardinge
I haven't read Middle Grade in forever, but this was SO GOOD! Seriously, the plot twists were remarkable and this just BLEW MY MIND!
Legend by Marie Lu
I've heard tonsssss of mixed feelings about this one, but with the sequel looming close, I figured I'd give it a shot. Let's see how it goes...
Underground Time by Delphine de Vigan
I just LOVE this author, so when I found out that she had written another book that was also translated in English (she's French), I jumped for joy. Thankfully, my librarian called a couple of other libraries to find this for me and now it is MINE! Or, you know, mine for three weeks! ;)
Small Damages by Beth Kephart
I've heard incredible things about this one, so I'm curious and a little nervous to start as it's not something I'd usually pick up. Kephart has written lots of novels, which I didn't know about since I thought she was a new author, so I'm curious to give this a shot.

Well, that's my haul for (most of) January! What new books have you received this week (or month!)?

  4. Sam here Keertana I was super excited about The S-Word but the reviews so far haven't been that promising so far, I think I will still read it, but maybe leave it until closer to the release date! Also I can't wait to start Friday Brown, especially after you loved it! Also Small Damages I am dying to read a copy of that! I hope you enjoy all your books hun! :)

  5. I enjoyed Legend overall, but I do agree with many of those mixed reviews. I hear the sequel is better though. :) And yay! I'm so glad you enjoyed Dare You To! I'm waiting a little closer to release to read it, but I can't wait (loved Pushing the Limits!). Awesome haul, Keertana. I'm looking forward to reading your reviews for some of these. :)

  6. To be honest, I didn't really enjoy Legend. There were parts I liked, but mostly I was like meh.

Although I wasn't a fan of The Nightmare Affair, I still love the cover. It's so cool. ^^

I absolutely loved PtL, but I don't think I'll be reading Dare to You as I don't think I'll be able to get on with the mc.

Hope you enjoy your books! :D

  7. Marco Impossible! You know I love Hannah too, I can't wait to read your thoughts.
Dare You To isn't a book I'm sure I want to read, but the cover will probably lure me in, I'm weak like that. We'll see.
Also, I absolutely HAVE to know how you'll feel about Teeth. It's one of the weirdest, most confusing books I've ever read, and I've read some pretty crazy books.
Enjoy them all, my friend. :)

  8. AHHHHH KEERTANA!!!! You lucky woman you! I cannot wait for Dare You To (which for some reason in my head I call Dare To You - what?). I just adored Pushing the Limits and cannot wait for Beth's story. I'm so glad to know you loved it! I can't wait for The Nightmare Affair either - I have high hopes for it:)

  9. I cannot even pretend I'm not pumped up for or envious of Dare You To, I am glad to hear it's good despite some flaws.

    Also!

Frances Hardinge. I need to read more of her books -- I've only read one - Fly Trap.

    Happy reading :-)

  10. Oo, I wonder how you will like Small Damages. I loved that book. Not much action but the writing and the interior monologues are kind of beautiful. Also, it made me want to go to Spain so very much. Enjoy the books!

  11. I am watching for Dare You To daily. So awesome that you read and loved it. I fully expect to love it too. I love the cover!

  12. UMM, YEAH. I'm pretty sure me (along with EVERYONE else) is drooling over Dare You To. And the fact that you HAVE IT IN YOUR HAAAAANDS. Keertana, PLEASE enjoy it for me!! ;) I've had my eye on Small Damages for awhile now, and I'm so glad you enjoyed it (I saw your rating on GR!) Legend.. -__- I still need to read that one. Awesome books this week, Keertana!!

  13. Gah! I want to hound you for a review of A Face Like Glass, but I haven't written one myself so of course I can't. :P

One of these days I'm going to have to beg you to let me borrow a stack of Aussie books--Friday Brown sounds so good! Also, you have me frequently checking to see if my library's ordered Teeth yet. They do have most of her other books, so I'm hopeful that it'll be ordered soon (they're just slow at the beginning of the year for budget reasons).

I was also thinking, because I started reading another Neumier book the other day--we should do a read along for The Floating Island or The City in the Lake sometime. If you'd be interested that is. I just know you have them as well and also really liked House of Shadows. =)

  14. WOWZA. Quite a haul as always dearest!

Well, I take it Moskowitz is another author who I've never heard of that I should check out since you seem to love her so much.

I have to agree with you about Dare You To. It's good with its few flaws and I couldn't wait either. I'm looking forward to reading Crash Into You!!

Ahhh, Legend. I still have that to read too on my kindle if you wanted to read along. (I know, I have a read-along thing at the moment) but I think it might encourage me to read more, haha.

  15. EPIC haul, Keertana! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Small Damages. I adored that book but am curious about whether you'll feel the same:)

We have a lot of the same books (especially the NG titles) so it will be fun to compare notes! My only disappointment is that my copy of Marco Impossible isn't a Kindle version, I have to read it on my computer:( That bums me out. I don't like to read books that way. But I am anxious to read something by this author because everyone really speaks highly of her. Great take, K!

  16. YOU HAS THE NIGHTMARE AFFAIR. AND JUST ONE DAY. *grabby hands* Waiting for your amazing review of Just One Day that will no doubt have my running to my nearest bookstore. Ditto with Friday Brown. I've only read one review of that, but wow. WANT. It sounds like another Aussie showstopper.

Curious what you'll think of Legend - I loved it! Hoping to start the sequel very soon.

Enjoy your fav new books, Keertana!

  17. Thank you so much for your wonderful visit to my blog, and the amazing comment you left. So much detail! I love it! I feel like a horrible blogging friend also, because I have been reading people's reviews (yours included) and not commenting due to the crazy happiness that has been my life lately. I promise to get better!

As for this post, specifically: I am in the middle of Just One Day right now, and although I'm in a big of a reading funk, where I can't blow through things like I normally do, I am loving it so far. Part of me is glad that I am dragging it out a little, because your absolute need for book two tells me that I will feel the same once I finish it. Gayle Forman tends to have that effect.

I will try to be better about commenting as well, since getting and giving feedback is one of the best parts of blogging!

  18. I hope the S-word doesn't turn out to be a flop. I was really excited for it. I got Dare To You as well and can't wait to start it!! So thrilled to hear you enjoyed it. Great haul Keertana. :)

  19. A Face Like Glass, Friday Brown, and The Nightmare Affair all sound incredible, and I know you loved the first two so I really anticipate reading those! And I actually didn't know Delphine De Vigan had another book in English! Thank you for indirectly alerting me Keertana, that makes me so happy. :) And as always, your book haul is AMAZING! Enjoy :)
