Showcase Sunday (#15)

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicki at Books, Biscuits and Tea. Its aim is to showcase our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders this week.

Bought:

I was lucky enough to snag all three of these for just $5 at a garage sale across the road from my house, so I can't wait to start them, especially as they are all such largely acclaimed novels ! I hope the hype lives up! ;)

I doubt it'll come as a surprise to any of you that I bought this this week - who didn't? I started it and I, unfortunately, don't think this book is for me. Yet, while it's on hold indefinitely at the moment, I fully intend to get back to it when I'm in the mood for a more gritty, character-driven and very adult plot-line.
As a self-proclaiming Lord of the Rings fan, it's downright blasphemy that I haven't read this one yet. I've read everything else Tolkien has written - yes, everything else - except this novel and I figured with the movie releasing soon, I better get started with this one. I. Can't. Wait. I swear, there's nothing quite like Middle Earth! :)
I'd never heard of Rachl Neumeier before I read Heidi's review of this novel on her blog, Bunbury in the Stacks, and from her description itself, I knew I had to buy this one as soon as possible. It sounds fantastic and I simply cannot wait to start it! :)

Well, that's all I got this week! I'm actually incredibly grateful that I didn't receive any ARCs this week as I feel as if I'm already neck-deep in them and have so much catching-up to do. My reading time has also shortened considerably due to school work and most of the time, I'm too exhausted when I come home to do anything but sleep, only to wake up and finish my homework in the wee hours of the morning and sleep again. It's brutal. *sigh* Still, I'm hoping to get some more reading done once I get through all my ARCs for this month, not to mention that Quintana of Charyn is on its way to ME! So! Excited! Anyway, you can finally expect my review of The Raven Boys this week along with my ARC Review of Sanctum which I just finished up and loved. I'm still debating over whether to post up some adult mini-reviews or my review of Brigid Kemmerer's Spark, so if you have a preference, let me know!(:

OH, and link me up, please! I'd love to see what new goodies you all received this week! :D

  1. I didn't get Casual Vacancy this week but I'm planning to sometime later next month. So jealous that you're getting Quintana! I may have to buy the kindle version (if it's already available) because it's still not available in my local bookstores.

    1. Quintana isn't out in the US/Canada until March, so you'll have to get it shipped from Australia if you want it, Chel. I know it's expensive, but I thought it was worth it, so I hope you can read it soon!(:

  3. I'm still scared to read more John Green books after The Fault in Our Stars =)) But I hear Paper Towns is nice :D I've always wanted to read The Lord of the Rings but get distracted by shiny YA covers.

    Great haul, Keetana :D

  5. I loved The Hobbit, but not as much as the Lord of the Rings books. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it! Oh and I keep meaning to get around to Hold Me Closer, Necromancer. It's had so many great reviews, so I'm almost certain it's my sort of book. Brilliant haul, Keertana! :)

    1. Thanks Sam! I'm certain Hold Me Closer, Necromancer is my kind of book too, so I am SO excited to start it soon. I need to read The Hobbit soon as well, so I hope I find the time! :)

  6. You haven't read The Hobbit yet? That is one of my all time favourite reads! So I can't wait for the movie to be released! I actually watched all of The Lord of the Rings films and didn't read the books and now I'm having a tough time getting back to them! :( I'm glad I'm not the only one who still has to read Hold Me Closer Necromancer and Paper Towns! Some great books again this week hun! Tell me about the arc books I think I need to lock myself away and get them all finished off! Happy reading! :)

    1. Thanks Jasprit! I know, I haven't read The Hobbit yet! I will soon though, I promise. I'm looking forward to the movie very much as well, and you definitely need to get back into Lord of the Rings soon. I love, love, LOVE it! :D I also want to start Hold Me Closer, Necromancer soon, so I'm looking forward to when my ARC list will finally go down and I can start! I think it'll be fantastic for sure! :D

  7. The Hobbit!! I desperately anticipate seeing that movie, along with several other book to movie tie-ins: Anna Karenina, Les Miserables, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and Great Expectations. So many great ones coming out at the end of this year!

Nice haul, Keertana! I hope you enjoy all and happy reading! Damn, it's about time I finally read a John Green book...

    1. YES. You need to read The Fault in Our Stars at least...it's my favorite! I thought Looking for Alaska was a little overrated, but those are the only two I've read. I still need to read Perks, Anna Karenina, and Les Mis, but Great Expectations is one of my favorite books ever, so I'm excited for that one for sure! :D

  8. House of Shadows looks like a a beautiful cover. I'm off to GR to check it out.

The Hobbit I tried to read and failed. I will be coming back to it at some point.

And oooh, The Casual Vacancy. I actually love the simplicity of the cover now... Strange, it has grown on me.

  9. I think it was a great risk for Rowling to write an adult novel. Her built-in audience doesn't usually read that genre so it'll be interesting to see what people think.

I feel your pain with time constraints, Keertana! Trying to blog and have full-time commitments is a challenge. I haven't been requesting as much because I just do not have the time! I'd love to see your mini reviews on the adult books. You haven't review much adult, so it'd be nice for a change. :)

  10. I can't wait to get my John Green Boxset so I can read Paper Towns, The Fault In Our Stars and An Abudance of Katherines. I have to finish The Hobbit before the movie comes out! Have you seen the new trailer and poster for it?

    1. Yes, I have and I love them both! I need to start The Hobbit soon though...if only all those ARCs would disappear for a few days! I can't wait to get around to reading Paper Towns and An Abundance of Katherines, not to mention Will Grayson, Will Grayson. I'm sure they'll all be fantastic, so I'm looking forward to those for sure! :D

  12. Awesome haul Keertana !! I've heard great things about Paper Towns. I look forward to know what you think of A Casual Vacancy.

  13. Ooh, you're getting Quintana of Charyn? Lucky duck!! I'm kind of ambivalent towards The Casual Vacancy, I've heard pretty negative things about it but still really want to like it.

  14. Fabulous haul! I'm (hopefully) getting the Casual Vacancy soon, but I do have some concerns judging by reviews and the fact that this is so different from HP. I was quite anxious the first time I saw this a few months back. On the other hand, I can't exactly not read it. ;) Enjoy! :)

  15. Haven't read any of these; but they do look awesome :D And I really must read The Hobbit soon. <3 Love the LOTR movies so much :) Hope you enjoy it all. <3

  18. Hold Me Closer, Necromancer is so entertaining! It's been quite a while since I read it... actually, I think it was the first ever book I reviewed, so it holds a special place in my heart :) And there's a zombie panda. A ZOMBIE PANDA.

The Casual Vacancy! I can definitely understand why it's not for you. It won't be a book for everyone. I'm only a little way in, but I'm planning to take my time with it. A read-when-I-can, rather than devour in two sittings.

Eeeek, I still haven't read LoTR! I watched the first movie for the FIRST time a few days ago and have been desperate to get my hands on the next two. I can't belive I've taken this long to watch! The Hobbit trailer looks amazing, I'm FOR SURE going to see it at the cinema!

I hope your busyintense schedule clears up soon <3

    1. A ZOMBIE PANDA? WHAT? NO. WAY. That. Is. It. You have ruined me, Brodie. Now I won't be able to get through my ARCs because...zombie panda, here I comeeee! *trips over pile of ARCs* Or not...for awhile at least! :/

I really want to pick up The Casual Vacancy again, so I will definitely do that, but probably only after awhile when I have some free time. I can't wait to see what you think of it!(:

Yes, Lord of the Rings is AWESOME! I love it and I can't wait to see what you think of the other movies. I need to read The Hobbit soon though...VERY soon! I hope my schedule clears up too and thanks for stopping by, dear! :D
