This series sounds fabulous. I love the world-building and the sound of the characters, especially Sirantha Jax (love her name)! She sounds like just my type of kick-ass heroine. I am very curious about her relationship with March. It does sound unusual, but surprisingly very enjoyable. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Too bad the second one didn't live up to the first one's expectations. :( I hate middle book syndrome! But I am happy that the third book remedied that glitch in this series. I love it when characters undergo development and just grow up...and I am excited to see that in this with Sirantha.

I'm glad you enjoyed this series, Keertana! I am very much looking forward to giving this author a try! Fabulous reviews! :D

~ Maida
Literary Love Affair
MåїÐ»-(¯`v´¯)-»https://www.blogger.com/profile/17761335857561590565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-32012805270988252102013-08-12T16:01:59.899-04:002013-08-12T16:01:59.899-04:00Thanks for the recommendations, Keertana! I looked it up on Goodreads, and I know I want to start with Aguirre there! Hopefully soon!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12274355208601978550noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-92120417396851925002013-08-10T12:25:38.662-04:002013-08-10T12:25:38.662-04:00I've only ever tried Ann Aguirre's YA book...I've only ever tried Ann Aguirre's YA books, but I bought a copy of Grimspace as soon as I'd started blogging. Following a Maja recommendation, of course. I still need to pick that up one day! I can't wait to give it a try, and I especially love the sound of Sirantha Jax. It's a shame that the sequel wasn't quite as strong, but I'm glad the third book brought the series back on track again. Brilliant reviews! :)Sam (Realm of Fiction)https://www.blogger.com/profile/04440380021875536125noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-80026801225042201182013-08-10T08:17:30.670-04:002013-08-10T08:17:30.670-04:00You know, that's a good question. Sadly, Book ...You know, that's a good question. Sadly, Book 2 is really important to the overall story arc. In fact, there's a huge reveal by the end about the villain and the direction the romance goes sets it up for Book 3, so it's important to understand that too. I definitely do think you can skim through Book 2, though. It would probably be better, actually.

Also, I read a space opera duology earlier this year that I loved and since it's only two books (and not six like this series), it might give you a good idea if you like this genre. It's the Song of Scarabaeus Duology by Sara Creasy - I loved both books and it focuses on terraforming new planets and what-not, so it's very interesting.

Also, my favorite Aguirre book is Bronze Gods which focuses around two detectives. It's excellent, so if you're looking to try her work, that's definitely the best. :)Keertanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01071392026876644282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-31787073399568346872013-08-10T00:05:44.098-04:002013-08-10T00:05:44.098-04:00These are very concise and thorough reviews, Keert...These are very concise and thorough reviews, Keertana! I really enjoyed reading them! I've seen Aguirre's Razorland series pop up on goodreads - as one of the site's recommendations to me. However, I never considered reading the series nor did I take the time to see what other works Aguirre had under her name.

I have to admit, I've never read a space opera before. Heck, the term is new to my eyes! But everything you noted about the series is so fascinating to me; I need to jump on this wagon and read Grimspace at some point in my life. The sooner the better, I think.

Thanks for your honest thoughts. :)

Oh, and just out of curiosity, would skipping book two be a terrible thing to do? lol I'm not saying I would, but I'm just wondering if readers would be missing out on important plot revelations if they did. :PAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12274355208601978550noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-67233149342763173082013-08-09T19:29:19.277-04:002013-08-09T19:29:19.277-04:00Amanda, I actually DO think Bronze Gods may be mor...Amanda, I actually DO think Bronze Gods may be more your style, though it's not sci-fi. If you're looking for solid sci-fi, some really good ones I've read lately are The Scarabaeus Duology by Sara Creasy as well as All Our Yesterdays, which is out really soon. I also enjoyed Dan Krokos's recent YA Series, though I have yet to read the second book. I hope this does work out for you, though! :)Keertanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01071392026876644282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-81898830202978305092013-08-09T19:22:35.874-04:002013-08-09T19:22:35.874-04:00I have a very vague sense of who Ann Aguirre is - ...I have a very vague sense of who Ann Aguirre is - mostly through yours and Maja's reviews. I've honestly never heard of her before a few months ago (maybe that's not very surprising since I haven't read much uf/adult scifi?), but now I definitely want to give her a try. I'll be honest and admit that scifi generally makes me a little wary. For some reason I can accept not knowing everything upfront in a fantasy world, but when that happens in scifi I get frustrated. I think part of the issue here is that I haven't found a really solid scifi series that I love. Your mini-reviews definitely have intrigued me about Sirantha Jax (and I love the fact that she's badass and also in her 30s - yay for adult protags!). I want to look into the other series you mentioned too though - maybe Bronze Gods would be more my style. So glad to see it reviewed! I'm eager to read it and will make sure to go into book 2 remembering why you almost gave up on the series. I haven't tried the YA series, but I plan to as well as Bronze Gods. Glad this series picked up at the end for you to redeem itself.

HeatherBURIED IN BOOKShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18205451716054533728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-71081074261081674452013-08-09T16:13:51.614-04:002013-08-09T16:13:51.614-04:00I have wanted to read this series for a while now....I have wanted to read this series for a while now. I've considered reading these, he thinks that I'd like them since I love urban fantasy. Your review is super exciting and makes me want to pick up the first one like now. It's kind of exciting. Though I love her YA books every bit as much as her adult:) Grimspace was my first foray into Sci-Fi and I absolutely adored it! I haven't yet read the rest of the series, but I'm so glad to see that book 3 makes up for all the shortcomings of book 2 and then some:) I can't wait to get caught up!Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14199685365145765394noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-75135648673807201392013-08-09T03:00:55.797-04:002013-08-09T03:00:55.797-04:00I had no idea that this author has other books but...I had no idea that this author has other books but Bronze Gods. I remember seeing your, Maja's and Kim's reviews for that book and I want to read it ever since. This sounds like a great series that has its ups and downs but third book sounds so good that I need to read this. Great reviews Keertana :)Tanja - Tanychyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15084789780467257259noreply@blogger.com
