But you had me at "de-stigmatizing mental illness." Really? I expect a lot from that statement. But I expect that Forman can do it if anyone can.
So I'll be reading this one very soon with the warnings about not liking Cody at first. Excellent review as always, Keertana!! I've read quite a few reviews of this one, and unfortunately, they were mostly bad reviews. :/ I think I'm ready to try again. In truth I Was Here was a disappointment for me. Probably the reason was that I’ve read If I Stay, Where She Went and I Was Here back to back; and it was hard not to have high expectations and not to compare these books. You are so right this book reads as it wasn’t written by the same author.

I live for the romance in my books, but I think in this case it worked against the main story. It somehow diminished Cody’s growth and turned this book into another “a boy with pretty eyes saved a troubled girl” story. Though it’s just my perception.

I wonder if your love for this book is a result of your own experience. Since you left your friends in your hometown, this story resonated with you on a personal level.

PS Ben’s eyes were mentioned so many times, that it grated on my nerves. Just saying…

Also if you ever decide to reread this book, I highly recommend the audiobook. Narration is amazing.
Kseniahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05362452522963234123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-30226038724742854342016-01-15T17:50:18.764-05:002016-01-15T17:50:18.764-05:00I still need to read Just One Year, but this one i...I still need to read Just One Year, but this one is def. going on that list to round it out. It seems that she just doesn't write bad books even if they aren't your fave. :)Melissa (Books and Things)https://www.blogger.com/profile/00074452958853212024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-3139661014451123662016-01-15T12:05:36.007-05:002016-01-15T12:05:36.007-05:00I have a copy of this book, too. I have issues with unlikable MCs. It's hard for me to love a story when I want to smack the MC over the head, but sometimes, especially if there's positive change and growth, the author can make me love the story, and eventually the character. I'm happy to hear you were pleasantly surprised, Keertana. Wonderful review! :)Rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16682335183798720529noreply@blogger.com
