I can totally understand your initial reservation in reading this one - I don't feel the same in this exact situation, but I have for other books and authors. So it's always a nice surprise to find the new book is just as good as - or better than - that former novel that we love so much. It sounds like Nelson has become an even stronger, more nuanced author in her second book. I can't wait to have the opportunity to read this for myself. :)Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03052456915027241479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-26220958388737517102014-10-17T07:02:00.947-04:002014-10-17T07:02:00.947-04:00Wow, such a beautiful review, Keertana. I especially love your last line, and I agree that it's a significantly more complex book that her debut.

I liked this book quite a bit, but I have to confess I'm not in the love love love camp the way just about everyone else seems to be. Maybe it was the mood I was in while I was reading it? Her writing style is fascinating, though, and the relationship between the twins was nuanced and complicated and believable for sure. I also liked that the mother's choices were left--somewhat hanging? Or at least mysterious/unknowable to her children? That's often the way it is in real life.

Wendy @ The Midnight GardenWendy Darlinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13471461156849725177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-83559583225267805292014-10-16T19:39:53.748-04:002014-10-16T19:39:53.748-04:00Oh Keertana, Keertana, Keertana. Is it weird that ...Oh Keertana, Keertana, Keertana. Is it weird that I feel like hugging you after reading this review? No, I haven't read I'll Give You the Sun, much less, The Sky is Everywhere, but your passion for Jandy Nelson's work is infectious. Is that even the right word to describe what I'm feeling? I don't know. All I know is that your words capture so much emotion, and I've connected to them. I want a similar, if not the same experience you had with this author. Clearly, I'm missing out on a lot. But I'm determined to read Nelson before the year is up. I already own a copy of The Sky, so why the hell not? This is such a beautiful & breathtaking review, and it made me so happy to read it. <3

Marlene @ The Flyleaf Review

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12274355208601978550noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-457727857118151852014-10-16T14:14:11.824-04:002014-10-16T14:14:11.824-04:00I actually feel the same way about this. It's odd because I know, I KNOW I'm going to love it, and yet I chicken out every time I look at it. I tell myself it's because of the new semester, and the new class I've started teaching, but in reality, I'm a huge coward.
Your review might just be the push I need, though.Maja (The Nocturnal Library)https://www.blogger.com/profile/14276646316400863181noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3523300192245025551.post-43277071414588442012014-10-15T18:18:06.077-04:002014-10-15T18:18:06.077-04:00Holy wow, I never read her writing before but now ...Holy wow, I never read her writing before but now it looks like I am completely missing out o.o it's sounds so.... different.. and nice. There aren't many sibling relationships in YA, which I think is a shame because there's so much potential there; so I am so glad to hear this not only covers a wonderfully developed sibling relationship, but a swoon-worthy romance as well.

Definitely giving this a try Keertana! I mean I loved The Sky is Everywhere so I'm afraid to read this, but it seems that Jandy cannot write a good book and I don't remember reading any books with twins in it and that I loved it. That's going to be interesting.
